Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga Poses
Restorative poses leave us nourished and well rested. These postures are usually deeply supported by props such as blankets and blocks while they are held for several minutes at a time. Gentle attention is then directed toward the breath as muscle tension is reduced and breathing improved.
The relaxation response
The relaxation response is a physiological state characterized by a slow heart rate, slower metabolism, slow breathing, low blood pressure and slow brain wave patterns. The restorative postures help relieve the effects of chronic stress.
Rest is different than sleep
'Rest' is different than sleep. Rest renews and heals the body. Countless studies have proven these physical and emotional benefits.
